Simon Langton issues warning after schoolgirls followed from Canterbury to Whitstable

Two frightened schoolgirls ran in fear as they were followed SEVEN miles home by a strange man.

A Canterbury school has issued a warning after the youngsters - who are sisters - were left distressed by the ordeal.

One of them, a Year 7 pupil at Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School, boarded a bus with her older sibling at the city's bus station.

The man also got on the bus and sat opposite the girls and began to stare at them.

Feeling uncomfortable, they moved downstairs to be nearer the driver, but the man also moved seats and sat behind them.

When they got off the bus in Whitstable, the man also alighted and continued to follow them, forcing them to run home to get away from him.

Simon Langton's deputy head, Robert Green, has written to parents following the incident on Thursday.

He said: "While both girls are unharmed, this incident was very upsetting for them and the police have been informed.

"Can we remind pupils to take care and be extra-vigilant when travelling home, and, wherever possible, to travel home with friends."
