A shameless thief who claimed his human rights were breached after his picture was printed in a newspaper has been given an embarrassing dressing down... by his own mother.

Cleaner Charlie Cooper was convicted of stealing £1,500 of sentimental jewellery from a woman's house to fund his drink and drugs habit.

A report of the hearing was published in the Kentish Gazette and Herne Bay Gazette yesterday, alongside a photo of Cooper taken outside Canterbury Magistrates' Court.

After seeing the story, the unrepentant 20-year-old messaged the newspaper today to say publishing his picture had breached his human rights.

He even attached the articles and photo for all to see, writing: "I know what I did was wrong but you didn't ask me if you could take a picture and put it in the papers, I know the public have a right to know but I have my human rights, and now they have been breached, thanks guys well done."

Cooper even took to his own Facebook page to demand compensation and sympathy, but was instead left red-faced after receiving a telling off from his mother Teresa.

She wrote: "They don't need your permission to take your picture if the courts have given them permission to be there to do so."

Cooper replied: "They do, I dont want my picture taken. End of."

But his straight-talking mother remained unmoved, responding: "IT DONE NOW. THAT LADY DIDNT WANT HER JEWLERY TAKING BUT YOU DID IT ANYWAY, END OF."

The retort sparked a threat from Cooper to block his mother from the social networking site, writing: "This is why I didnt have you on facebook mum, you say things like that, im blocking you ok.!

Undeterred, she replied: "Itsa the truth charlie, you dont like the truth, until you realise things like this you will never learne ok."

Cooper also faced a wave of criticism from the Gazette's Facebook friends for claiming his human rights had been breached.

Bethany Woodward wrote: "A theif who thinks his human rights have been breached after stealing from an old lady! you are the defintion of scum."

Matt Robert Harprum added: "Charlie, you have no human rights, as you're a convicted criminal and so KM Group do not need to ask your permission to print your photo as a warning to others not to employ you as their cleaner, for risk of getting more than their bins cleaned out. Great work Herne Bay Gazette."
