Heavy traffic as Rheims Way in Canterbury closed after crash and oil spillage at St Peter’s Place roundabout

A crash and oil spillage closed a busy roundabout, causing traffic chaos during the morning rush hour.

Long queues formed after the accident at St Peter’s roundabout in Canterbury, in the roadworks area.

The A2050 Rheims Way – a major route into the city centre – was closed between London Road and St Peters Place.

Highways teams were sent to the scene to clear the oil spillage and make the scene safe.

The road reopened just after 9am.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called to a one-vehicle collision at St Peter's Roundabout, Canterbury at around 5am.

“No injuries were reported and the incident was handed over to Highways officers.”
