Flooding on the railway line at Chartham is still affecting trains between Ashford International and Ramsgate today.

Buses are replacing Southeastern trains between Ashford and Canterbury West - and there is a revised, hourly service on to Ramsgate.

Trains are expected to begin running fully again at about midday when the line is cleared of water.

Passengers have been suffering delays and cancellations since the tracks were flooded on Tuesday night.

The line was reopened yesterday morning, but trains were later again unable to run from Ashford to Ramsgate via Canterbury West.

Southeastern said it has been caused by a river that has burst its banks.

A spokesman added that because it is tidal, the company is expect more problems throughout the day.

Speaking on Wednesday, Southeastern spokesman Michelle Ulyatt said: "We were made aware of the problem at about 5.30pm yesterday and immediately organised replacement buses.

"Obviously the wet weather has been very trying for everyone and Network Rail has staff at the scene investigating whether anything can be done to alleviate the problem because more rain is forecast which could lead to further delays or cancellations."

The delays came as emergency services continue to work to prevent more flooding in Kent with more severe weather predicted for the end of the week.
