A2 crash near Canterbury sparks queues stretching towards Faversham

A multi-car crash sparked two-mile queues on the A2 this morning.

Emergency crews were at the scene of the collision on the coastbound carriageway between Faversham and Canterbury.

Highways maps placed the crash scene the near junction with Denstead Lane.

Queues of traffic in both lanes stretched back as far as Brenley Corner, where the M2, A2 and New Thanet Way converge.

A police spokesman confirmed officers were called to a three-vehicle collision on the A2 coastbound near Boughton shortly after 6.30am.

"Officers assisted with traffic management while the road was cleared," they said. "No injuries were reported."

KCC Highways was confirmed shortly before 10am the crash had been cleared and all lanes had re-opened.

The incident has increased traffic at and around Brenley Corner, which while typically congested has experienced worse gridlock since last week.

Motorists driving towards the coast have been confronted with lengthy tailbacks as highways officials turn back lorries heading for Dover due to disruption with Channel crossings.
