Paramedics spent almost three hours at the roadside battling to save the life of a woman who was hit by a taxi

The 25-year-old suffered serious head and chest injuries when she was struck by the cab in Whitstable Road, Blean, just before 3am on Sunday.

It is thought she had been dropped off after a night out, but had left her bag in the back of the Cab Co taxi.

When she crossed the road to retrieve it, another cab from Wilkinson Taxis travelling in the opposite direction is said to have hit her.

Police and paramedics arrived in two ambulances and two cars, and the air ambulance was scrambled.
The helicopter landed in a field near Kent College and medics spent more than two-and-a-half hours trying to stabilise her.

The woman, believed to be a Canadian national who was visiting friends in the city, was taken to the specialist trauma unit at King’s College Hospital in London at about 5.40am.
She was in a life-threatening state, but police have since described her condition as stable.
Neighbours described hearing the drama unfold outside while medics worked to save the woman’s life.

Among them was Bridget Baxter, who said: “I heard a lot of commotion and my husband heard the helicopter. Then I saw the pool of blood in the road when I was walking the dog the next day.
“It’s awful. It is quite a dangerous road. We hear traffic roaring past, even though it’s 30mph. I hope the woman is okay.”

Robert Jones owns the Cab Co taxi firm, whose driver dropped the woman off but was not involved in the accident.
He said: “My driver’s okay. I feel very sorry for the girl, who was in quite a bad way. I hope she makes a full recovery.”

Police closed the road until 7am on Sunday while officers investigated.
They are appealing for witnesses to call 101, quoting reference 29-214.
