It's been a busy week of player comings and goings at Herne Bay as new manager Sam Denly starts to shape his squad.

Three players – Byron Walker, Rhys Lawson and Tom Bryant – have decided to leave Winch’s Field but Denly has brought defender Joe Kane to the club from Lordswood and also re-signed Gary Sayer, Dean Grant, Josh Sergeant and the Turner twins, James and Michael.

Denly, who succeeded Simon Halsey as Bay boss earlier this month, said: “Our new squad is starting to take shape and I am pleased that James, Michael, Dean, Gary and Josh have all re-signed for next season and our supporters can expect more signings shortly.

“I am delighted that Joe has signed for us. He is a good player and was being chased by a number of Ryman League clubs, including Whitstable.

“I’m on the phone all the time at the moment and it’s been pretty full-on since I took over but I’m enjoying it.”

Bay fans, however, will probably be disappointed that Walker and Lawson have both departed.

Walker’s striking skills have already attracted interest from clubs higher up the football pyramid and he had a two week-trial period with Stalybridge Celtic last season, while Lawson has been a popular figure at Winch’s Field for several seasons.

Club chairman Trevor Kennett said: “Rhys, Byron and Tom have been truly fantastic for Herne Bay and I wish them well for the future.”
