More than 1,000 expected for Canterbury 10-Mile Road Race

More than 1,000 runners this Sunday are set to compete at the sold-out Canterbury 10-Mile Road Race.

After smaller race numbers due to Covid restrictions, 1,250 competitors are due to be on the start line.

There will, however, be no entries available on race day.

The race will start at 9am and, while entrants are drawn mainly from Kent, they also come from other parts of the UK and even overseas.

It will start and finish in Spring Lane in the city.

Race director Glenn Mousley said: “We are working with new race marketing software this year which has been vital in helping the race to return to its high level of popularity.”

Winner for the past two years, former Invicta East Kent AC runner Charlie Brisley, now of Newham and Essex Beagles, will attempt to defend his title and is the favourite.

The ladies’ race is expected to be more open, although three-time winner Helen Gaunt from Tonbridge AC is returning.

Invicta East Kent, who organise the race, have continued their sponsorship arrangement with housebuilders Pentland Homes, while Demelza Hospice Care for Children is again their chosen charity.

All runners completing the course will receive a bespoke medal and free photographic downloads.
