CANTERBURY Rugby Club climbed to fourth in the National League 3 South table with a 43-0 crushing of Bristol-based Dings Crusaders on Saturday.

Canterbury, whose credentials will be severely tested away to third-placed Kent rivals Westcombe Park on Saturday, scored 36 points in the second half, after Crusaders had looked efficient and competitive early on.

Pat Sykes claimed a hat-trick, despite being yellow-carded for a period of the game, after scoring the opening try with a powerful close-range drive after 20 minutes, for David Dorton to convert.

In the first 10 minutes of the second half Mike Melford's pace set up the second for full-back Gert De Kock and a driving maul eventually allowed fly-half Wessel Wolmarans to cross the line.

David Dorton added a penalty to his three conversions before Sykes scored twice more, and No 8 Rowan O'Gorman added the sixth try, with man of the match Wolmarans adding two more conversions.
