Kent Cricket all-rounder Calum Haggett wants to improve on career best batting and bowling performances in the past week

Calum Haggett hopes there is more to come from him, despite having claimed career bests with both the bat and ball in the past week.

Haggett scored 54 in the first innings of Kent’s LV= County Championship game against Gloucestershire on Tuesday, having returned figures of 4-61 in last week’s draw against Glamorgan – his first appearance of the season.

Haggett said: “It’s been a good few days for me personally and hopefully it will continue. I’m not sure if my maiden First Class half-century is an indication of things to come but I certainly enjoyed it. Matt Coles batted well, which made things easier for me.”

The pair shared a record 119 for the eighth wicket against Gloucestershire as Kent built a narrow first innings lead at Bristol and Haggett said: “It was a nice sweetener to get in the record books but it won’t mean anything unless we win the game.

“I just tried to keep it as simple as possible, leave anything with width and wait for the ball to come to me.

“I have felt good the past couple of weeks, feeling good in the nets, hitting it well but it’s nice to convert that into getting runs out there in a game.

“It would have been good to get a few more, there was a bit of disappointment to get out when I did but it was just nice to be able to make a contribution to the team.

“To get from the situation when I came in at 80-6 to a lead of 30 runs was satisfying.”

Haggett also claimed a career-best with the ball in last week’s dramatic draw against Glamorgan at Canterbury and he claimed: “It’s been a group effort with everyone chipping in. As a unit, things are starting to come together.”

He added: “Every cricketer wants to play in the first team. I am happy at the moment that I am able to contribute. I just want to be playing and winning for Kent.”
