Medway & Maidstone athletes lead the way in Les Golding Memorial 10k

Tom Collins and Mark Wilkins of Medway and Maidstone AC dominated the 168-strong field in the Les Golding Memorial 10k at Herne Bay on Sunday, writes Alan Newman.

Collins covered the seafront course in 33min30sec to finish 44 seconds clear of his team mate. Tim Corby (Invicta East Kent, 34.57).

Local men in good form included Robbie Higgins (Dartford Road Runners, 35.44), Allen Jones (M45 Medway and Maidstone, 39.06) and Bob Fursey (M50 Medway and Maidstone, 43.16). Martyn Rouse (M65 Invicta, 43.48) was the leading higher age-group athlete.

Juliet Trumper (unattached, 41.16) won a low key women’s race from Rose Baker (W45 Holmfirth, 46.53) and Lorraine Thorley (W50 unattached, 47.08).

Mary Penfold (W50 Istead and Ifield Harriers, 48.36) was among the leading masters in ninth place overall.
