Manager Ray Turner says he may have to look at his own part in Faversham Town’s recent poor run in Division 1 South

Manager Ray Turner has said he may have to look at his own input as he tries to find ways of turning around Faversham’s fortunes.

Town have won just two of their last 14 games in all competitions and have lost two of their last three games at Salters Lane to last-gasp goals.

Town’s most recent late defeat came at home to Merstham on Saturday and Turner said: “One point from our last three home games is not good enough but maybe I have to take some blame myself.

“We have lost them both to late goals when we were pushing on looking to try and win the game. Maybe I need to look at myself, maybe we need to be more conservative.”

It was Faversham’s seventh loss in 19 Ryman League, Division 1 South games this season, while they lost only nine in 42 games last term.

Turner said: “I don’t think there’s a lot of difference between the two seasons.

“We probably edged a few games last year when we didn’t deserve to and this year we’ve probably lost a few where we deserved more.

“We probably overachieved a little last year and we’re probably underachieving a little this year.”

Turner hopes some new additions to his squad will help them correct their frustrating form when they travel to struggling Three Bridges on Saturday.

Town are missing midfielders Wayne Wilson (suspension) and Tom Hickman (long-term knee-injury), while defender Ashley Brown is set for a spell out with a knee problem.

Turner said: “We’ve had a lot of upheaval and have not been able to field the same team consistently, which is one of the things we were fortunate with last year.”

Midfielder Aiden Sherlock has returned to the club from Erith & Belvedere, while 23-year-old former Margate midfielder Ashley Groombridge and defender John Scarborough joined Town on Tuesday.

Turner said of the 34-year-old former Gate, Dover and Gravesend man: “John (Scarborough) is vastly experienced and has previously played with Danny Hockton at Billericay.

“I’m hoping he can steady the ship for us. He might be just the thing we have been looking for.”
