Commuters faced rush-hour congestion on the A2 after reports a van flipped over in the road.

The accident happened on the coastbound carriageway at Darenth between Northfleet and Gravesend at around 3pm.

One lane was closed and there was queueing traffic following a crash involving two cars.

One witness said: "I looked behind and the van was in the air and came down on its side.

"It went on to the hard shoulder and lots of cars pulled over."

Earlier, there was a crash eastbound between J2 for the M25 and the A2260 Southfleet Road.
