Dartford and Sidcup fire crews battle for more than six hours to save barn in Maidstone Road, Swanley

Firefighters battled for more than six hours to save a barn after it caught fire in Swanley last night.

Fire crews were called to the barn in Hockenden Farm in Maidstone Road, Swanley, just before midnight.

At the height of the blaze, two engines from Dartford and two from Sidcup tackled the flames. Crews left the scene at 6.30am.

But despite efforts lasting longer than six hours, the barn was completely destroyed. According to crews, only straw bales were inside at the time.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said the cause of the fire remains unknown although early suspicions are that it could be malicious.
