Shoppers caught up in the evacuation at Bluewater have claimed they received little official information about the incident.
But others have praised 'brilliant' shop and restaurant staff for staying calm during the scare.
Many shoppers were unaware of the drama as not all of the centre was evacuated.
Greenhithe couple Adam and Stephanie Jenner arrived at the shopping centre just after 8pm as other shoppers were still reporting they had been asked to leave
Mr Jenner, 35, said he and his wife had no problems getting into Bluewater. "We are having a lovely meal and it seems busy," he said half-an-hour after arriving.
Others expressed surprise that the official @tweetbluewater Twitter feed was continuing to promote special offers about donuts and clothes during the evacuation.
