Siblings Luke and Jordan Dawes honour dad Robert with fundraising Tough Mudder for Multiple Sclerosis Society

A brother and sister put their strength together to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis Society in honour of their dad, who was diagnosed with the disease four years ago.

Luke Dawes, 19, and Jordan Dawes, 16, from Swanley, raised £1,200 when they took part in a Tough Mudder, smashing their £200 target.

Luke, a college student who will be studying Sports Therapy at University in September, said that the MS Society was a really important charity to their family.

When his dad was diagnosed with MS, a condition that affects the body’s nervous system, things began to change quickly for the Dawes family. His dad’s struggle with the disease worried his children and at 42, Robert Dawes has days when he struggles to walk.

Luke said the charity had given the family information about the condition which was teaching his dad how to live with MS rather than allow it take over his life.

Luke said: “I hope our money will help families who struggle to come to terms with this disease, like we did at first. I’d also like some money to go to research to find other ways to make it easier to live with or even a cure.”

Luke and Jordan took part in the mudder as a group of eight. Their friend James was also raising money for MS Society with everyone else fundraising for other charities.

Luke said: “The whole day was based around teamwork and sticking together. I couldn’t have done it on my own.”

The challenge was a total of 12 miles of climbing, crawling and digging and all eight of the group worked together .

Luke said: “We wasn’t expecting to raise that much money. Our dad is so happy and appreciative, we’re all overwhelmed by the donations.”
