28 March 2014
by Thom Morris

A by-election in Stone yesterday saw Labour's Catherine Mary Stafford elected.

She will now represent the ward on Dartford council.

It comes after the resignation of Labour councillor John Adams on January 24.

He also represented St John’s on Stone Parish Council.

Both seats were covered by the elections.

Mr Adams had held the roles since 2011 and resigned with immediate effect.

The results were as follows:

  • Catherine Mary Stafford, The Labour Party, 426 votes 37.7%
  • Stephanie Anne Thredgle, Local Conservatives, 397 votes 35.13%
  • Jim Moore, UKIP, 307 votes, 27.17%

In total there were 1,130 votes cast out of an electorate of 4,908 - representing a 23% turnout.
