Motorway misery for drivers as they are warned of long delays after drain collapses in Dartford Tunnel

Traffic queued back for miles - hours after the Dartford Tunnel was reopened following a drain collapse.

Commuter traffic tailed back several junctions, after emergency repairs were carried out at the Dartford Tunnel.

The collapsed drain was in the east tunnel, which forced it to shut from around 10.20am.

But despite highways workers re-opening it at just after 1.30pm - the bottleneck still affected traffic into the evening.

Queues on the M25 tailed back from J1A for Erith and Swanscombe to J3 for the M20 and the Swanley Interchange.

Kent Police's Roads Policing Unit advised drivers to steer clear of travelling near the crossing, tweeting: "Very long delays for Dartford Tunnel on M25 and A2. Please avoid."
