Delays on QEII as wide load is transported to Dartford

Motorists are being warned to expect delays as police escort an abnormal load across the Dartford Crossing this morning.

The massive electricity transformer is being transported from Bedfordshire to Littlebrook Substation on a 16-axle trailer pulled by two trucks.

National Grid project engineer, Andrew White said: “The transformer will be replacing an existing one at the substation.

“Once it’s been installed it will play a vital role in helping to make sure people across the region keep on enjoying safe and reliable electricity supplies.

"We’ve carefully planned this delivery to ensure it has as little impact as possible on road users and the community.

“To make sure the delivery can happen we’re asking people not to park on Rennie Drive.”

The transformer will travel to Kent via the M1, M25 and QEII Bridge.

It will leave the A282 after crossing the bridge and travel a short distance on the A206 before leaving at the Littlebrook Interchange.

It will then travel along Rennie Drive and arrive at the substation at around 3pm.
