M25 delays after lorry fire near Swanley and Darenth Interchange

A lorry fire is causing queues and slow moving traffic on the M25.

The clockwise carriageway between the Darenth Interchange and junction 3 for Swanley is seeing delays following the incident at 6.50am.

The fire is on the anti-clockwise side of the motorway on the entry slip road which is adding to the problems in the area.

Drivers have been warned to expect delays in the area for the next couple of hours.

The road is expected to be cleared at about 10am.

A fire service spokesman said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a lorry cab alight on the M20 slip road for Junction 3 of the M25, near Swanley.

"Three fire engines and a bulk water carrier were sent to the scene, and crews wore breathing apparatus while using main and hose reel jets, as well as foam, to extinguish the flames, before damping down any hot spots and making the scene safe.

"No casualties have been reported and the cause is not yet known."

Crews were at the scene for about an hour.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 7am to a report of a vehicle fire on a slip road for the M25 and junction 3. The vehicle was a lorry and the incident was dealt with by Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

"There were no reported injuries. Police attended to assist at the scene. Lane closures were put in place by Highways and which currently remain in place."
