Flood alert for River Darent, from Westerham to Dartford, due to persistent rainfall

A flood alert has been issued for Kent following heavy rainfall.

The Environment Agency has warned levels continue to rise on the River Darent, from Westerham to Dartford, due to persistent rain over the last 48 hours.

Water continues to rise at Hawley and there is a risk of flooding of roads and low-lying land tonight and Sunday.

The agency said: “No further rainfall is forecast this evening and into tomorrow, however, river levels will remain high for the next few days.

“Property flooding is not currently expected, though surface water impacts are possible.

“We are monitoring rainfall and checking rivers for blockages in the area.”

The EA has also advised people to avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.

Furthermore, it advises residents to not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.
