Bad parking delays Dartford fire service

Firefighters struggled to put a fire out this morning after parked cars made a street difficult to get fire engines through.

Despite arriving at the scene in minutes, the Kent Fire and Rescue service said the fire in Dartford took longer to tackle because of "inconsiderate parking."

Cars parked on bends and junctions stopped fire engines from turning around corners and left engines in trouble.

Crew manager Neil Jones urged drivers to think about the fire service when they park.

“We know sometimes space can be limited but please try and leave enough room for us and other emergency services to get past.

"Fire engines are wide and need more space than you might think.

"Parking on a junction or a bend may stop us getting to where we’re needed at a time when every second counts."

The fire in Shakespeare Road took an hour to put out and destroyed a shed as well as nearby fence panels.
