Accident on A2 westbound, B255 (Bean Interchange For Bluewater) and junction 2 of the M25 (Darenth Interchange)

All lanes on the A2 have now reopened, several hours after a serious accident.

The crash involving a van and two cars happened on the London-bound carriageway at around 1pm.

Police partially closed the road between the B255 Bean Interchange For Bluewater and junction 2 of the M25 Darenth Interchange until around 5pm while an investigation was carried out.

The road was initially completely closed, but lanes three and four were reopened to allow traffic to pass.

Crash investigators completed their initial inquiries just before 5pm and the vehicles have been recovered, but lengthy queues remain.

A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said medics treated a man and woman at the scene before both were taken to hospital.

"The man in his 60s was suffering from neck pain and admitted at King's College Hospital in London," said the spokesman. "The woman, with back pain, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital."

It comes after long queues this morning following the closure of the Dartford Tunnel.
