More than £20,000 has been raised for a hero who tried to save a woman’s life during a terrorist attack.

Hassan Zubier, from Dartford, will need to use a wheelchair for the rest of his life after he was stabbed during the rampage in Turku, Finland, last August. Two people died in the atrocity and several were injured.

The 46-year-old paramedic, who now lives in Sweden, saw the attacker cut one woman’s throat and desperately tried to stem the bleeding before himself being knifed in the back four times.

Speaking to KentOnline at the time Mr Zubier refused to call himself a hero but said he was shocked the attacker came back to him in an attempt to stop him helping the fatally wounded woman.

During the rampage the attacker also tried to stab his girlfriend, with Mr Zubier able to distract him with seconds to spare.

Now a fundraising campaign to help put Mr Zubier’s family’s life back on track has raised more than €22,000 of a €100,000 total in less than three weeks.

A statement on the GoFundMe page, titled Hassan Zubier’s Medical Fund, reads: “The family situation changed radically over one night. With a newborn baby in the family and the stress that Hassan’s disability implies, much help is needed both practical and financially.

“By supporting him and his family, we can show our high regard for his courage and the compassion that he showed when trying to help a dying woman at risk for his own life.”
