As ambassadors, they aim is to inspire all children to take up a sporting, music or other activity for life.

Ben, 32, said: “I can really relate to what the KalliKids’ Ambassador scheme stands for. This has become even more the case since I had my son 14 months ago.

“I want to help get the word out that being involved in something positive when you are young can be so beneficial in so many ways.

“Youngsters need to get out of their comfort zone, try new challenges and push themselves. The rewards will be worth it.”

Ben scooped third place in the 60kg category in 2012 despite a knee injury just seven weeks before.

He had previously gained fifth in the 2008 Games in Beijing and is also double World and European champion.

He said: “London 2012 was incredible. I had my sights set on gold, but after getting injured, it was a great relief to get bronze.“

He was diagnosed with a rare genetic sight condition called Stargardts disease, which left him with degenerative sight loss and he now has no central vision and can only see peripherally.
