David Bassett, 77, of Dartford, to stand trial over Ollie Sherwood crash death

A pensioner accused of causing the death of a young motorcyclist by careless driving following a crash at a notorious junction will stand trial in the new year.

David Bassett, 77, is alleged to have driven his Vauxhall Insignia on the A2018 Shepherds Lane at the junction with Heather Drive, Dartford, without due care and attention last September.

His actions are said to have resulted in the death of Ollie Sherwood, from Eltham.

The father-of-three, 29, died at the scene after coming off his Yamaha motorbike while his 21-year-old passenger, believed to be his girlfriend, was seriously injured.

Bassett, of Seaton Road, Dartford, has denied the offence and will stand trial at Woolwich Crown Court on Monday, January 8.
