A doctor is facing sentence today after admitting sexual assaults of children and women and taking indecent photographs during intimate examinations.

South African-born Dr Barend Delport also admitted having about 500,000 indecent images of children, some at the highest level of five, on his computer equipment.

He resigned after reports in March of photos being taken of patients at The Oaks Surgery in Swanley.

He was barred from practising until an investigation was complete.

The 55-year-old married GP admitted 27 offences.

He pleaded guilty to five charges of sexual assault, two of indecent assault, one of sexual activity with a girl under 16, 12 of taking an indecent photograph of a child, five of making an indecent photograph of a child and two of possessing an indecent photograph of a child.

The offences were committed between 2003 and 2012, and one of the sexual assault victims was as young as 18 months.

He is due before Maidstone Crown Court today.
