Family of Martin Ginnelly pay tribute after his fatal car crash in Ash Road, New Ash Green

Friends and loved ones have paid tribute to a man described as a "big friendly giant" at the scene of a fatal crash.

Martin Ginnelly, 56, died after a crash between a green Ford Explorer and blue Ford KA on Ash Road, at the junction with North Ash Road, just after midnight on Saturday morning.

Mr Ginnelly - the driver of the KA - was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have issued a statement, it reads: "Our family has lost the most wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather.

"We were truly blessed to have had him in our lives and we are devastated that he has been taken from us. We love and miss him dearly."

At the scene of his death numerous floral tributes and messages of condolence have been left.

One bouquet of flowers had a card attached with the message: “The Big Friendly Giant is what you were.

"Such a lovely man. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family at this very sad and tragic time. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Love Sarah.”

Another read: “Rest in peace Martin. You was one in a million. I'm going to miss you so much. Lots of love Zoey xxx”

The touching messages sat among more than 15 bouquets of brightly coloured flowers and a picture of a middle aged man in a frame.

It is believed he was victim of the accident.

Another message referred to the man as an "angel", it said: “Earth has one gentle soul less and heaven one angel more, always remembered, love Martyn and Michelle.”

One simply read: “A true legend. Always in our hearts, gone but not forgotten. Love from Connor.”

Three people have since been arrested in connection to the collision.

A 17-year-old boy from Swanley, a 16-year-old boy from Dartford and a 26-year-old man from Dartford are suspected of causing death by dangerous driving and have been released on bail until 8 January while officers make further enquiries.

Police are still keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision.

Sergeant Chris Wade of the serious collision investigation unit said: “We are very keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this collision, or the movements of either vehicle in the moments leading up to it.
