Broken down lorry has closed two lanes of Dartford Tunnel

Two lanes on the M25 near the Dartford Tunnel were closed for more than two hours causing delays for commuters.

The congestion has been caused by a broken-down lorry on the anti-clockwise route between J1A (Erith and Swanscombe) and J31 (West Thurrock).

It happened at around 5.35pm and the congestion extended to J2 (the Darenth Interchange) and did not fully clear until around 8.50pm.

Highways officials said there was also a crash in the queue closing the outside lane two lanes about a mile before J2.

The right-hand tunnel (the higher of the two tunnels) was closed.
