All the latest from Crayford Greyhound Track

Last week’s top tip, Westmead Lola, duly won here on Saturday in the £1,000 final of the Ladbrokes.Com Summer 540 Trophy.

This was the seventh visit to Crayford for the greyhound, trained by Wayne Wrighting at Hove, and also her seventh straight win here. As I stated last time, she loves to race at Crayford!

I can only suggest you watch out for her as at the moment she looks a good bet.

The amusingly-named Smell The Money won her first race here at the weekend for trainer Mark Fenwick in bottom grade A8 over 380m.

In her seventh career race – after two seconds and three thirds among her first six – her 24.16sec is a strong indication she is within the scope required to win in a higher grade.

We will find out next time.

Despite the fact she is still learning and has not had the benefit of a clear run in any of her races, I think she will win again in A7 within a couple of outings.

I am always looking out for what I see as unlucky losers, as invariably such dogs go one better next time. In Ellens Choice, we may well have a likely candidate after her narrow defeat here a week ago.

In an A3 race over 380m, she was beaten by the minimum distance of a short head but the circumstances were that the dog did not trap well and improved her position from fifth early on before being edged by Oilean Daktari – our July Dog-of-the-Month.

Ellens Choice joined Crayford trainer Katie O’Flaherty’s kennels in February, having previously raced at Henlow and she has been in good form here in her last four races, winning twice and finishing second twice.

One for your notebooks, Any Number will be upgraded to level A4 after her latest win in grade A5. She is the type to have the odd pink patch when she will win a few races in a short time, as she did a couple of months ago when winning three races in four outings landing victories between grades A5 and A7.

While A4 may be a step too far, I would suggest that you back her when she drops back down to A5 level, where she is more than capable of rewarding the backers.
