Helmsman Andrew Howland and three volunteer crew reached the site 20 minutes later, and helped police.

The body of a man, who had been reported missing earlier in the day, was recovered by the crew and taken to Walmer lifeboat station where it was handed over to police.

It is not known if the man is local to the Deal and Dover area.

A police spokesman said: “I can confirm we were called at midday. It’s a non-suspicious death. The coroner will decide how he died.”
