Breakthrough Breast Cancer's Crocus Walk turns 10!

Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s 10th annual Crocus Walk went ahead yesterday (Saturday).

The sponsored walk, organised by volunteer ambassador Kerry Rubins, was set to break all previous records with more than 200 people taking part.

Walkers set off from Walmer Castle gravel pit car park at 10.30am and made their way to The White Cliffs Hotel in St Margaret’s, where a complimentary buffet courteous of proprietor Gavin Oakley was on offer.

There was a raffle and speeches.

For the first time there was a bar in the garden and each walker recieved a goody bag, supplied by event sponsor Sainsbury’s in Deal.

Miss Rubins, who has raised more than £100,000 for the charity close to her heart, said before the walk: “I can’t wait!

“After organising my very first Crocus Walk back in 2006, with 53 walkers, I never thought that my tenth one, all these years later, would be this successful. It’s amazing.

“So many residents get involved plus people come as far as Tunbridge Wells to take part nearly every year.

“The walk truly brings everyone together. My huge thanks goes to everyone who has ever helped out or taken part in my walks. Long may they carry on.”

The walk back was optional.
