Coastguard appeals for information after empty kayak found drifting off Deal

Dover Coastguard is appealing for information after an empty kayak was found drifting upturned underneath Deal pier last night.

Lifeboat crews from Walmer joined Coastguard rescue services from Deal and Langdon just after 9pm.

The light blue kayak, which has a foot-long black and yellow pattern, was last seen by fishermen at sunset with a person inside.

The search was called off at 11.52pm with no reports of anyone missing.

Dover Coastguards' spokesman Julia Gosling believes its owner could have forgotten to secure the craft.

She said: "We ask that anyone using a canoe or kayak label their equipment and let people know where they are going and give a rough time when they are expected back."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Coastguard on 01304 210008.
