Prince of Wales pier in Dover re-opens to public

The Prince of Wales and Admirality piers are now re-opened after being shut for three days.

Adverse weather conditions forced the port of Dover to shut the pier on December 30 after it was deemed too dangerous to walk along.

Strong winds had also caused slight damage to the fencing, warranting repair.

On December 31, a spokeswoman for the port, Alyson Hudson, said: “Our primary concern is the safety of customers and, because of the pier’s exposure and the strength of the winds which are resulting in the sea overlapping, the pier will be closed until it is considered safe for people to return and repairs are completed.”

She also added that someone would be fixing the fencing on that day depending on weather conditions.

But now, people are free to visit the pier providing they are cautious of strong winds which are still forecast.

Spokeswoman Barbara Buczek from the port said: “The pier is open since this morning (January 2).

“People are advised to be mindful of the weather conditions and take care when visiting the pier if the weather deteriorates.”
