Deal firefighters tackle out of control log burner fire

Firefighters in Deal attended an incident in College Road, Deal, last night, after a log burner fire spread out of control.

Two appliances from Deal were called to the scene at around 9.30pm.

Crew manager Danny Yates said: “A log burner had had logs stored up against the side of it and whilst burning had set alight to them, filling the property with smoke.”

Quick responses from both the home owners and firefighters resulted in the fire being extinguished within half an hour.

Crews wore breathing apparatus and used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke.

Crew manager Yates said: “The occupants were able to go back into the house. There was virtually no damage to the property.”

He added: “We’d like to issue a safety message to the public. When using open fires, please ensure there are no combustible materials close to them.”
