About 40 businesses and tradesmen have already committed to the project which aims to keep people shopping locally.

And tonight’s “Big Reveal” event is pushing to sign even more up to ensure customers get the best discounts from the outset.

Mark Goldfinch, one of the scheme’s developers, said: “With the website filling with interesting and enticing offers, we are scheduling the public launch for Saturday, May 10.

“That day there will be a buzz in the High Street and Deal market as the Deal Card team hands out starter cards to shoppers and strollers.”

The gathering tonight will reveal the Deal Card website, which consumers will visit to find out about special deals.

Would a loyalty card entice you to shop locally?

Cards will be handed out, including starter cards, which can be given to customers.

To find out more, go to tonight's Big Reveal at the Astor Theatre, Stanhope Road between 5pm and 7pm.
