Deal Fire Station crew manager Danny Yates said: "We used hydraulic cutting equipment to take the roof off and extricate the gentleman on a long-board."

It is believed the dark VW Golf the man was driving hit a stationary vehicle, injuring the man, who is believed to be in his 30s.

"They took him away in an ambulance. He had hit his head on the windscreen which makes us automatically think there may be spinal injuries.

Police officers closed the road while firefighters cut the roof off and evacuated the man.

When the two fire appliances left at about 12.30am police then took over and managed the traffic and recovery of the car.
