A man who was arrested in Dover at the weekend has appeared in court charged with the murder of two women in Wakefield.

Ahmad Otak, 19, was one of three people detained by police after they were called to a house at Gloster Way, Aycliffe.

The alarm was raised at 4.15am on Saturday following a call from a 19-year-old woman at Gloster Way. Concerned for her welfare, police attended at the address.

As a result of what they were told, they contacted West Yorkshire police who went to a flat in Barden Road, Wakefield where the bodies of Samantha Sykes, aged 18, and 17-year-old Kimberley Frank were found.

Police then arrested three people in Dover, two men aged 19 and 23, and a 19-year-old woman.

Post-mortem examinations carried out on Sunday evening revealed Miss Frank and Miss Sykes, both from West Yorkshire, died from stab wounds.

Otak, of Linton Road, Wakefield, was charged with murdering the two women at the flat in Barden Road on Friday. The 23-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were released without charge.

Otak has also been charged with the kidnap and false imprisonment of Kim Frank’s sister Elisa Frank and possession of a large kitchen knife.

He appeared before Wakefield Magistrates this morning and was remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Crown Court by video-link tomorrow.
