Marathon runner Andrew Warman will raise cash for Bliss premature baby charity and MS sufferers at music night

Talented musicians are on the bill to help former Deal resident Andrew Warman raise cash for two charities.

The former Deal Secondary School pupil is holding a concert, raffle and auction at Deal Welfare Club on Saturday, March 7, as part of his London and Brighton Marathon fundraising for Bliss, the premature baby charity, and Kent MS Therapy Centre.

Andrew, 40, who now lives near Croydon with wife Edita, said: “Some great young musicians and bands will be performing live.

“The line-up, put in place by Mitch Emery, has very talented musicians and will definitely make it a special night.”

The dad of three – and one on the way – is supporting the Kent MS Therapy Centre when he sets off to run the Brighton Marathon on Sunday, April 12, and Bliss when he runs the London Marathon two weeks later.

His family know all too well what a worthwhile cause Bliss is. The charity helped his sister Julie, 37, in 2007 when she gave birth to son Finlay 16 weeks premature.

Sadly, Finlay only lived for 76 days, leaving a devastating hole in Julie’s life, impacting on the whole family.

As well as running for Bliss, Andrew is supporting the Kent MS Therapy Centre because his friend’s wife now works for the charity. He said his training was going well, despite being set back by a knee injury between September and January. With the target to raise £500 for the Kent MS Therapy Centre and £2,500 for Bliss, he hopes the fundraiser in his home town – and the family’s stomping ground of the Welfare Club – will enable him to collect as much cash as possible to fuel the charity coffers and set him up for his challenges next month in London and Brighton.

As well as live music, there are quality prizes on offer in the raffle, and he hopes sports lovers get bidding generously on lots that include hand-signed photos of Steve Gerrard, Michael Carrick from Manchester United FC and former England cricketer Freddie Flintoff.

There will also be a Surrey County Cricket Club bat signed by the squad.

The charity night is from 6pm until late. Entry is free.
