A Victorian Church of England Primary has been given a new-look to prepare for another era in its long history.

The village school at Northbourne was built in 1856, the year Livingstone completed his journey across Africa and a year after the end of the Crimean War.

Now after months of work, a new extension has been opened to provide a better learning space for the youngest pupils.

Head teacher Frances Chiverton said: "The building is fantastic and secures our future as a small village school.

"The work has taken nine months and I would like to thank teachers, parents, governors and the 103 pupils for their patience.

"We have now much improved facilities and more space, with the extension’s custom-made two classrooms providing an improved learning environment.

"The children are so happy with the new extension and we are attracting new pupils to our small friendly school all the time."
