People invited to share ideas for crazy golf course in Walmer

The public will be offered the chance to have their say on what should become of the former crazy golf course in Walmer.

The news comes from Kevin Fordham, deputy managing director of Your Leisure, which leases the site from Dover District Council, after the Mercury put forward some of its readers suggestions.

Mr Fordham said: “We certainly have aspirations to improve the appearance of the facility, which is why Your Leisure has had it cleared. In terms of its future we are in discussion with Dover District Council.

“What we are keen to do is to consult with the community about what we could have there. It needs to be financially sustainable.”

Some are keen to see the site, which was neglected for many years, return to its former glory.

Deal resident Jenny Domane said: “This is a community space so let it be used by the community for crazy golf again, for all the family; adults and children.”

Marco Misticoni and Susan Fairley are would like to see an outdoor gym.

Mrs Fairley said: “I think an outside gym would be worth considering. It would encourage greater fitness which is a government health target and would ensure the wonderful location was well used and enjoyed.”

On hearing these suggestions, Mr Fordham added: “We will be looking for community engagement which will enable the idea of an outside gym to be put forward.

“We will be in a position in the next month or so to communicate our plans.”
