Live music gives restaurant the Hop & Huffkin, the edge in New Street, Sandwich

Pie, ale and music has become a regular attraction at a new Sandwich restaurant called the Hop & Huffkin.

Every Tuesday night from 8pm until 10pm live solo artists pull up a chair and perform at the New Street restaurant.

Owner Ian Linstead said: “The next act is an acoustic artists called Tom Abrahams on Tuesday, December 2.

“He’s very good and comes in and plays on his acoustic guitar. He also plays with a group called Manor Manouche, a gypsy jazz band.”

The sessions have become a hit locally, not least because of the quality of the music but the pies. They also serve real ales, which is a major draw.

Mr Linstead said the restaurant has not been open very long, but its emphasis is on local - they aim to get local artists to exhibit there as well as attract musicians from nearby towns and villages.

On Sundays, music dominates the evenings from 7pm to 9pm when the restaurant turns to a fully fledged music venue.

The next act to perform this Sunday is Larkspur, a rising folk band originating from Broadstairs who have enjoyed airtime on BBC Radio Kent in recent weeks.

On Sunday, December 7, Chilli Jam will perform.

Entry is free.
