Deal Pier closed due to high winds and rain

Deal Pier is closed and a road is blocked after high winds and rain lash the county.

Dover District Council has made the call to shut off the landmark due to the adverse conditions.

It is not known when it will reopen.

Police are diverting drivers after a tree has fallen in Liverpool Road.

It has also brought a lamppost down with it.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police officers came across a tree that had fallen from a garden into Liverpool Road, Walmer, shortly after 8.15am on Monday, December 11 2017.

"They remain at the location to ensure the safety of motorists and have made KCC Highways aware."

Another fallen tree is partially blocking Kingsdown Road.
