A rallying call has been made by the manager at the Deal branch of Marks & Spencer for residents to help out in a beach clean.

Jan Marshall is urging people to sign up to get involved in the event, which takes place on Deal beach on Wednesday morning.

They will be joined by staff from the High Street store in picking up litter, making the place look tidier for residents and visitors.

She said: “Just bring a pair of gloves and we provide refreshments like bottles of water, juice and a bar of chocolate.”

Staff have been handing out leaflets in the store as part of the chain’s nationwide drive to support the Marine Conservation Society who have organised the event.

The partnership aims to clean 100 beaches around the British coast.
