STORM IMOGEN: 7ft wall collapses in Deal garden

A seven-foot concrete wall came crashing down in a Deal garden last night, as Kent is hit by Storm Imogen.

Harold Chapman, 88, of Bulwark Road, was awoken by a loud noise at around 4.30am.

His wife, Claire, 56, said: “I slept through it but he heard a terrific crash in the night and didn’t know what it was.

“He said it sounded like a heavy picture had fallen off the wall.

“He went looking all over the house.”

Mrs Chapman finally discovered what it was when she went out into an alley way off their garden, this morning.

She said: “I went out in the garden and came back in, in shock.

“I said to him: ‘You want to see what’s in the garden.’

“It was a high wall made of concrete blocks and it’s all over the garden.”

The wall has blocked entry to their shed as well smashed the shed window and the bird and cat's bowls. It has also damaged some of their new fencing.

Mrs Chapman said: “We’re still in slight shock.”
