Whitfield near Dover: Kent Fire and Rescue Service put out blaze in Citroen Berlingo

Dover firefighters tackled flames for more than an hour after a van caught alight while being driven in Whitfield.

The alarm was raised at 6.54 on Saturday night.

Watch manager Andy Batchelor said: "The driver thought there was a fire in the engine compartment while he was driving which spread to the rest of the car.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used 100 litres of foam to put the flames out."

The white Citroen Berlingo was completely destroyed.

The area was made safe by 8.15pm.

Accidental ignition is thought to be the cause.
