Disrespectful vandals smash fourteen windows at St Leonard's Church, Rectory Road in Deal.

27 February 2014
by Eleanor Perkins

Vandals targeting St Leonard’s Church, in Rectory Road, Deal, have been branded utterly disrespectful.

Carol Flewker, wife of rector David Flewker, said: “There has been a series of smashed windows.

“Every time we board one window up, we go in and another one has been smashed.”

A total of 14 windows have been broken; seven in the church, two in the Lady Chapel and five in the church hall across the road.

Mrs Flewker added: “It’s utterly disrespectful and so beneath content.

“Apart from anger, it makes you feel so sad. The church is something that means so much to people.

“We feel like it’s not worth replacing the windows until the problem is sorted.”

“Luckily, they are small, plain glass windows, but we’re worried about the stained glass ones, which would cost thousands to be replaced.”
