Vintage car saved from garage fire in Deal

A 58-year-old vintage Humber car was saved by firefighters from a blaze that ignited a garage in Deal on Sunday.

The crew got to the parade of garages, behind St George's Church in St George's Road at 3pm.

Firefighter Shane Gibbins described the fire as "a reasonable size" and that it had cut off power to the church.

"It had affected the garage next door," he said.

It is thought that the fire had been caused by an electrical fault, sparked by some of the equipment stored inside.

A motorbike, also in the garage, could not be saved.

Mr Gibbins said it was damaged as its tyres had melted.

A warning has since been issued by the crew for people to check their electrics, especially in outbuildings.
