Alex Corbett jailed after taking revenge on Dover neighbour with baseball bat

A Dover father armed himself a baseball bat before calling three pals to help take revenge on a neighbour.

Jobless electrician Alex Corbett, 40, claimed he had been beaten up by a man living a few doors away and left snarling: “Give me an hour and I will be back with my boys...You are going to get your throats cut!”

The incidents in Clarendon Place, Dover in July last year were caught on CCTV and shown to the judge at Canterbury Crown Court.

Now Corbett, who admitted affray and possessing an offensive weapon, has been jailed for 18 months. He is already in prison for other offences.

Prosecutor Ben Irwin told the court that Corbett had suffered violence during the earlier incident and he then made his threats before returning to his home.

“There followed a 20-minute period of peace in the street but rather than contacting the police, he remained in his property and his response was to contact his associates who then meet him at his home.

“Corbett then leaves his home with his confederates, armed with a baseball bat and is seen on CCTV making the short journey to the home of the victims, striking at a moving car driven by the wife of his victim.”

The court heard how Corbett, still armed with the weapon, then forced his way inside and was in the property for 20 seconds where he struck one person and attempted to hit another.

Mr Irwin said another of Corbett’s pals hit out with a hammer and a knife was also found nearby.

James Howard, defending, claimed Corbett suffered a fractured skull and cheek bone in the incident and he denied calling his mates for support.

But Judge Rupert Lowe told Corbett: “I am told by the end of the incident you were left with a ripped T shirt and lumps on your eye and behind your ear and you were taken to hospital.

“However the violence started and I accept you received quite a beating but you left the scene and the next thing we see you on the CCTV is being passed a baseball bat by your wife which she had retrieved from her vehicle.

“You plainly had in your mind an intention to take revenge and then you waited for your boys to arrive.”
