Counter-terrorism police given more time to question five men arrested at the Port of Dover and in east London on suspicion of terror offences

Police have been given more time to question three terror suspects arrested in Dover this week.

One of the men, aged 28, was detained at the Port of Dover at 8.30am on Monday on suspicion of terrorism offences.

The previous day, two men aged 33 and 43 were arrested at the port - also on suspicion of terrorism offences - when police stopped a lorry.

Inside, armed officers discovered 12 men and one woman, who were arrested on suspicion of immigration offences.

A 37-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of people trafficking, and has since been charged with the offence.

Today, police have been granted more time to quiz the three men, along with a further two terror suspects arrested in east London on Monday afternoon.

The arrests were made by officers from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command as part of an investigation into Syria-related terrorism.

Detectives say the operation is not in response to any immediate threat.
